Damcaster by Georgia Quarter

In 1860s, a crib dam was built across a stretch of the Chattahoochee River near Columbus, Georgia to harness the energy of the falling waters. Constructed of massive beams of heart pine wood that began to grow before the Revolutionary War, the dam generated power for the Eagle & Phenix Textile Mill from which the dam got its name. Decades later, a traditional dam was built in front of the original crib dam as the mill’s power needs shifted from water to electricity. From then, the old wooden dam remained immersed in the swollen waters, largely forgotten and having served out its purpose.

As part of an initiative to return Georgia’s most famous river to its natural glory, the dam was removed in March 2012, uncovering the natural rapids that lay beneath. With the help of Jim Flournoy and Old River Sawmills, thousands of boardfeet were reclaimed from the water, clearing the way for what is now the longest stretch of urban whitewater rapids in the world, featuring class four and five rapids. Further, it comes with no surprise that the removal of the Eagle & Phenix dam has also fueled the ongoing renewal of a town, a town that appreciates that fact.

The Damcaster design pays homage to the rebirth of the Chattahoochee, as each custom guitar is built with appreciation from this historic treasure.

Cutbait by Georgia Quarter

Produced from the same historic wood, the Cutbait by Georgia Quarter is the bass guitar counterpart to the Damcaster.  Named after the class 5 rapids that were exposed by the removal of the Eagle & Phenix dam, the Cutbait design pulls inspiration from the rolling, whitewaters and the rolling eddies that emerged.

The Cutbait comes in both 4 and 5 string versions with a variety of finishes and neck woods to choose from.  It holds a variety of options waiting for customization.

Springer by Georgia Quarter

The Springer by Georgia Quarter gets its name and inspiration from the historic Springer Opera House in downtown Columbus, Georgia. While series #1 of this line was made from pine boards salvaged from the theatre in a major restoration completed in the late nineties, all models share their own nods to the nostalgicvenue...from the headstock that mimics the art deco seat backs to the floral fret marker designed after the ornate embellishments seen throughout the theatre's lobby.

The Springer is a light-weight, low-action design that plays like a Paul Reed Smith but has a symmetric and timeless design that is all its own.  The two-tone wood body and headstock can be customized to feature any number of combinations of pine, mahogany, maple, koa, redwood, rosewood, ziricote, and an assortment of other excellent tone woods..  And, while the Springer comes standard with custom-built McNelly humbuckers, buyers can also choose P90s for a slightly cleaner sound.
